Mayhem Game Notes: Mayhem at Knoxville Ice Bears

February 17, 2018 - SPHL (SPHL) - Macon Mayhem News Release

Latest Mayhem Transactions

2/15 Jake Trask (LW) returned from loan to Atlanta (ECHL)

2/15 Brandon Pfeil (D) returned from loan to Atlanta

2/15 Daniel Gentzler (D) returned from loan to Atlanta

2/15 Stathis Soumelidis (LW) returned from loan to Adirondack (ECHL)

2/13 Daniel Echeverri (D) loaned to Greenville (ECHL)

LAST GAME PLAYED: Both teams come into this game after victories on Friday night. The Mayhem hung on late in the third period for a 3-2 home win over the Birmingham Bulls. Knoxville was involved in a shootout on the road against Evansville last night, as they pulled out a 7-6 shootout victory over the slumping Thunderbolts.

SCOUTING THE ICE BEARS: Knoxville has been one of the hottest teams in the league, as they are 11-3-3 since the start of January. Their offense has been led by the January Warrior Player of the Month, Berkley Scott, over that stretch, as he has 11 goals, 12 assists and 23 points since the start of January. They have gotten some reinforcements over the past month, as goaltender Zoltan Hetenyi has returned from loan to the ECHL, and second-leading scorer Danny Cesarz has been activated from the injured reserve. The Ice Bears are third in the SPHL in goals per game at 3.66, and they rank fourth in goals against per game at 3.13. Hetenyi leads the way in net and is tied for first in the SPHL in wins.

HOME COOKING: One of the main reasons Knoxville is having a great

season is that they have done a tremendous job protecting home ice. They have a 12-4-1 record at home this season, and they defeated the Mayhem in overtime in the two teams' one matchup in the Knoxville Civiv Coliseum this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS SHOWDOWN: The Mayhem will try to get their power play back on track tonight after going 0-3 last night against Birmingham. They have been struggling on the man advantage recently, as they have scored just three power play goals over their last six games - a stretch in which they are just three-for-28 on the PP (10.7%). It's a bad matchup, however, to try and get back on track, as Knoxville sports the top penalty kill in the league at 88.1%. While the

Mayhem have also struggled giving up goals on the penalty kill, they have scored five short-handed goals. John Siemer has played a part in four of the five goals, as he has three short-handed goals and assisted on Dennis Sicard's short-handed tally last night.

BACK IN ACTION: The Mayhem stay on the road next weekend, as they face off against the Evansville Thunderbolts on Friday night and are back in Knoxville next Saturday to take on the Ice Bears.
