Mayhem Blank IceGators; Hood out for Season

Louisiana IceGators News Release

MACON, Ga.--The Louisiana IceGators can't seem to catch a break during the home stretch of the season.

The IceGators suffered their fifth consecutive loss Friday night when they fell to the Macon Mayhem 4-0 in the first game of their weekend road trip, allowing four different players to score those goals.

And if that weren't bad enough, forward Dylan Hood suffered a broken ankle during the game, knocking him out of the line-up for the remainder of the season.

"The injury was pretty graphic," IceGator head coach Drew Omicioli said. "It didn't help our cause at all because all of the players looked pretty shaken up."

The night was already a rough one for the IceGators before the injury.

Mark Rivera, Vadim Gaskov, and former IceGator Shawn Skelly all scored in the second period to give Macon a 3-0 lead going into the final intermission. Jackson Brewer added an insurance goal with 4:17 left in the game. Skelly, Guskov, and Anton Lennartsson, who had a pair of assists, led Macon by contributing two points each on the night.

"We played decent in the first period, but we had a really tough second period," Omicioli said. "Discipline is a major issue for us. We continue to play short, and it's costing us games. We also had two mental errors on the first two goals. Then, we allow a great power play unit to have a five-on-three advantage, and the puck wound up in the back of our net."

Omicioli also took time to complement the Mayhem staff for taking care of Hood after he suffered his gruesome injury.

"Macon handled it like true professionals," Omicioli said. "Coach (Kevin) Kerr and his players were right there with us to support Hoody. It was a class-act play by them, and it was much appreciated."

The IceGators now have to rebound quickly from this devastating night to play the Columbus Cottonmouths Saturday night in the second game of their weekend road trip. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m. EDT.
