Minnesota Lynx News Release

Members of the 2015 WNBA Finals Champion Minnesota Lynx will be honored by the Minnesota Vikings at their game on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. In addition, Maya Moore will also sound the Gjallarhorn prior to the game. Throughout the 2015 WNBA Playoffs presented by Boost Mobile, Moore averaged 23.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists, including hitting a game-winning three-pointer as time expired in Game 3.

Centuries ago, a Gjallarhorn was a horn sounded by Viking gods to signal the beginning of a great battle. The original Minnesota Vikings mascot, Hub Meeds, would sound a horn on the sidelines when the team played at Metropolitan Stadium. The Vikings Gjallarhorn was re-created and has been sounded to start each game since, signaling THE VIKINGS ARE COMING. Notable honorary Vikings that have sounded the horn since its re-creation include: Joe Mauer, Brock Lesnar, Neal Broten, Mardy Fish, Olympian Shawn Johnson, Paul Molitor, along with several prominent Vikings alumni.

Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen sounded the horn following the team's 2013 championship.
