May Dominates in Loons Win

Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - Where to begin with the Great Lakes Loons on Sunday afternoon. The offense exploded for 11 runs on 15 hits, three players had three or more hits in the game, and starter Dustin May turned in his best start of his professional career. Everything went the Loons' way en route to their third shutout of the season besting the Bowling Green Hot Rods 11-0 at Dow Diamond in front of 2,949 fans.
It was two big innings that sealed the outcome as the Loons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning and added five more in the 4th to force Bowling Green (26-29) to play from behind all day. And that was all the help May needed.
On just 83 pitches, 68 of which were strikes, May (W, 3-2) was spectacular over seven innings not allowing a run on five hits. He didn't issue a walk and had seven strikeouts. It was his longest start of his career and the first start since April 24 in which he did not allow a run. Sven Sch-ller also pitched well out of the bullpen throwing two scoreless innings.
In the lineup for Loons (28-28) it was Errol Robinson, Oneil Cruz and Cody Thomas who combined to go 11-for-14 with four extra base hits and seven runs batted in. Robinson had a banner day reaching base every time including a double, triple, walk and three stolen bases. Cruz had four hits of his own while Thomas drove in four runs with a double and a home run.
The Loons put a cap on a 3-3 homestand after dropping a tough series with the West Michigan Whitecaps before bouncing back to take two of three from Bowling Green. The team also just put the finishing touches on their longest stretch of the season without an off day going 12-8 during that span. Across the Midwest League, Monday (June 5) will be an off day.
It's back on the road for Great Lakes beginning Tuesday as they'll visit the Whitecaps for three games in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Loons will return to Dow Diamond for a wrap-around four-game weekend series with the South Bend Cubs that will run Friday thru Monday.
