Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers (5-5) found themselves in an old fashion shootout against the Lancaster JetHawks (6-4) on Saturday, but managed pull out a 9-8 win. Luke May belted a two-run homer in the third inning and other two-eyed jack in the sixth frame.

On a night when Inland Empire gave out replica championship rings to the fans that supported them during their 2006 title run, they played like it was a post season match up. The 66ers scored first by picking up three in the first inning. The JetHawks scored one in the second and four in the third to knock starting pitcher James McDonald out of the game and take a 5-3 lead.

The 66ers came right back when they picked up a pair of tallies in the bottom of the third, which included May's first home run to knot the game up at 5-5.

Jordan Pratt (1-0) came on in relief of McDonald and was the main reason the 66ers won the game. Pratt worked four and one-thirds innings allowing one hit and striking out five batters.

In the sixth, the 66ers broke the tie score. David Nicholson singled to left. The next two men failed to reach base but moved Nicholson to third. JetHawks starting hurler Mike Rozier (0-1) then air mailed a ball back to the screen and Nicholson scampered home to break the tie. Still in the sixth, Adam Godwin walked and Shane Justis doubled to bring home Godwin. May then nailed his second long ball to left to make it 9-5.

Lancaster made it interesting late. The JetHawks scored three in the eighth before Manager Dave Collins brought in his closer Ramon Troncoso to earn his second save of the season.
