INDEPENDENCE, Mo.- Last week the Missouri Mavericks split a pair of home games in the "Visit Independence, Visit Wichita" Cup against the Wichita Thunder to close out a three-game home stand. This week begins the Mavericks' longest road trip of the 2017 portion of their schedule with four straight away from home.

Previewing This Week

Sat., Jan. 14 at Wichita - 7:05 p.m. | Home vs. WIC (1-1-0), Away vs. WIC (1-2-0)

The Mavericks turned in their best defensive performance of the season the last time they visited Wichita on December 23. Their 4-0 win over the Thunder at INTRUST Bank Arena gave the Mavericks their first win in the "Visit Independence, Visit Wichita" Cup, and was their first shutout of the season. This Saturday's game will wrap up three consecutive games for the Mavericks against the Thunder and they are currently 1-1-0 on that stretch. By the time Saturday's game rolls around, the Mavericks will have gone a full week without playing a game - the longest such break they have enjoyed so far this season. Wichita, meanwhile, will have already played twice this week by the time the Mavericks get to town.

Sun., Jan. 15 at Allen - 4:05 p.m. | Home vs. ALN (1-1-0), Away vs. ALN (0-3-0)

The Mavericks' chase for a Kelly Cup playoff berth will be largely impacted by how the season series with Allen plays out. In terms of winning percentage, Missouri (.456) is closer to Allen (.622) than any of the current playoff-eligible Mountain Division teams and enters play this week with three games in hand over the Americans. Additionally, there are eight remaining head-to-head matchups between the Mavericks and Americans - more for Missouri than any other Mountain Division opponent. The Mavericks have dropped their first three decisions in Allen by a combined 14-4 score as opposed to out-scoring Allen by a combined 5-4 score through two games in Independence.

Recapping Last Week

Fri., Jan. 6 vs. Wichita: OTW 5-4

The Mavericks pulled off their most dramatic comeback of the season on Friday night. After falling behind Wichita 4-0, Missouri rallied for five consecutive goals over the final 37 minutes and change, including overtime. Rookie Dan Correale scored his first pro game-winning goal in overtime to complete the comeback. Full Recap >>>

Sat., Jan. 7 vs. Wichita: L 2-4

After falling into a three-goal hole, the Mavericks mounted a comeback bid against the Thunder for the second night in a row. They got to within one, but this time the comeback never fully materialized. Kevin Tansey scored for the second consecutive game and Andrew Courtney scored his first goal since November 5. Mavs Moments

- Eamon McAdam extended his winning streak to three games with his 24-save performance against Wichita on January 6. The rookie out of Penn State posted consecutive wins on October 28 and November 15 before a call up to the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The call up lasted until McAdam returned to the Mavericks on January 4. With Friday's win, McAdam has a 1.23 goals-against average and .911 save percentage over the streak.

- The Mavericks start a four-game road trip this week, and it is the fourth time this season that they will play four or more consecutive games away from Independence. Missouri's best stretch of play on the road was from November 19 to December 9 where it played nine of 10 games on the road and went 5-2-2. This is the final time this season the Mavericks play more than three straight games on the road.

- Mavericks captain Andrew Courtney missed 19 games due to injury between November 15 and his return to the lineup on December 31. He has two points (1g, 1a), three shots on goal and a +1 rating in three games since getting back into the lineup.

- Rookie defenseman Kevin Tansey was named an ECHL all-star on January 3, 2017. In his two games since the announcement, Tansey has posted three points (1g, 2a) and 10 shots on goal. He is 11th among rookie defensemen in scoring and his .72 points-per-game average is third-best among first-year defenders who have played 10 games or more.
