Mavericks Stumble in Orlando

Kansas City Mavericks News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Missouri Mavericks saw their three-game winning streak put to a halt on Tuesday night in Orlando. Despite jumping out to the early lead, the Mavericks surrendered six unanswered goals and fell by a 7-2 final. The loss dropped Missouri's record to 6-8-1 on the season.

On Monday the Mavericks' power play didn't have much of a chance to get on track. The Solar Bears committed just one penalty and the Mavs couldn't convert the chance. Tuesday night, though, was a different story with Missouri's power play cashing in early. Ryan Obuchowski worked himself open at the point and wristed the puck on net with Rocco Carzo camped out in front. Carzo tipped it home for his fourth goal of the season 5:30 in. Orlando, though, answered back 39 seconds later to tie it on a Joe Perry marker and then took the lead at 14:16 on a shot by Brett Findlay that was originally ruled no goal.

Things went sideways for the Mavericks in the second period as they were out-shot 18-6 and surrendered four goals. Perry netted his second of the night at the 2:30 mark by tipping in Jon Jutzi point shot, and he bookended the scoring by finishing the hat trick at 15:33. In between Perry's goals were markers by Johnny McInnis and Eric Faille. The Mavericks had a couple of chances to dent the lead late in the frame but Kevin Tansey's attempt from the doorstep was turned away and Radoslav Illo was denied on a breakaway.

Missouri found a spark early in the third when Dan Correale potted his first pro goal 43 seconds in. The Mavericks also turned to Ville Husso to replace Robinson in goal and the rookie from Finland was sharp. He stopped the first 17 shots he faced in the frame, but was dinged for a goal with just under five minutes left. Austin Block deflected a shot from the right wing over Husso's shoulder and into the net for his first goal of the season.

Robinson shouldered the loss with 23 saves against 29 shots, while Husso stopped 20 of 21 in relief. The Mavericks ended the night 1-for-2 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

Mark your calendar! The Mavericks return home on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:05 p.m. to face the Allen Americans Groups of 15 or more are eligible for discounted tickets and preferred seating based on availability. Call the Mavericks at 816-252-7825 to book your group outing .
