Kansas City Mavericks News Release

TULSA, Okla. - The Missouri Mavericks used a four-goal first period to beat the Tulsa Oilers, 4-2, Tuesday night at BOK Center. Mavericks' forward Ryan Jardine had a pair of goals and an assist, and Mike Berry extended his goal streak to six games. Berry also earned the fourth straight game-winning goal for the Mavericks as the Mavericks improved to 25-17-5 and a tie for third place in the Turner Conference with the Quad City Mallards. Goaltender Gerry Festa stopped 20 of 21 shots in his seventh win of the season, and the Mavericks remained unbeaten in their last five games going 4-0-1.

"Great first period for us and one of Gerry Festa's best games of the year," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "We like the roll we are on but we have to keep it going with two of the top teams in the league coming to Independence this weekend."

Missouri jumped out to an early lead en route to a four-goal first period when Toby Lafrance converted just 54 seconds into the game. Jardine earned an assist on Lafrance's 11th goal of the season. Jardine then made it a 2-0 game on his first of two goals at the 6:37 mark. Nick Sirota and Todd Griffith tallied the assists on the marker, but the Mavericks weren't finished in the first.

Forward Mike Berry extended his franchise-record goal streak to six games when he gave Missouri a 3-0 lead at the 15:37 mark of the opening period. Griffith notched his second assist for his first multi-point game with the Mavericks and defenseman Blake Forsyth earned the second assist. Berry's goal proved to be the game-winning goal marking his team-leading seventh game winner of the season and fourth straight for the Mavericks. Finally, with 1:08 remaining in the first, the Mavericks made it 4-0 on Jardine's second goal of the game.

Tulsa scored a goal in each of the second and third periods to make it a 4-2 final. Jack Combs scored at the 8:12 mark of the second period, and Michel Beausoleil tallied his goal at the 12:30 mark of the third period.

The Mavericks top-ranked penalty kill unit stopped all four of the Oilers' power plays, and Missouri finished 0-for-2 with the man-advantage. Missouri closed out the season series with the Oilers with a 6-2-1 record.

The Mavericks return home this weekend for a Friday matchup with the Rapid City Rush who has won 11 straight games, and a Saturday game against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
