Kansas City Mavericks News Release

WICHITA, Kansas - The Missouri Mavericks were shut out, 5-0, by the Wichita Thunder Tuesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Thunder players Alex Bourret, Brett Hemingway and Matt Summers each had a goal and an assist in the win and goaltender Adam Russo stopped all 20 Mavericks' shots. The Mavericks are now 12-11-3 this season and in fifth place in the Turner Conference, just two points below the Rapid City Rush for fourth place. Missouri will head to Fort Wayne to take on the Komets on Thursday night.

"Inconsistent," said Mavericks' Head Coach Scott Hillman. "We had a very solid first period, our penalty kill was doing a great job, but we had no second or third period to follow up."

After a scoreless first period, the Thunder took a 2-0 lead through the second period. First, Matt Robinson banged home a loose puck to put the Thunder up 1-0 at the 9:12 mark of the second period. Then it was Hemingway who buried a centering pass from Aaron Davis to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Through two periods, the Thunder held a two-goal lead and they had a 21-16 edge in shots.

Early into the third period, the Mavericks had a goal waved off on a shot from center ice, and the Thunder regained control by scoring three more goals. Wichita made it 3-0 on a two-on-one goal by Bourret at the 7:41 mark of the period. Next it was Summers who scored at the 10:59 mark on assists from R.G. Flath and Bourret. At the 16:14 mark Chris Chappell made it a 5-0 game when Mavericks' goaltender Charlie Effinger was unable to cover the puck and Chappell put it into the open net.

The Mavericks were shut out for the first time this season. The last time the Mavericks were shut out was a 4-0 loss in Wichita on January 22, 2011. Missouri finished 0-for-3 on the power play, and the Mavericks killed all three of Wichita's power play chances.

The Mavericks will travel to Fort Wayne and Bloomington on Thursday, December 29 and Friday, December 30. The Mavericks will return home on New Year's Eve, December 31 to take on the Texas Brahmas. Tickets for all regular season games are on sale via Ticketmaster. Call (816) 252-7825 for more information or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com .
