Mavericks Finish Home Stand with 4-3 Win over Quad City

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - Ryan Jardine had a pair of goals including the game winner and added an assist as the Missouri Mavericks defeated the Quad City Mallards, 4-3, Saturday night at Independence Events Center. Mavericks' forward Sebastien Thinel finished with three assists and he continues to lead the CHL in scoring with 54 points (16-3854) in 35 games played. Mavericks' goaltender Mike Clemente stopped 30 of 33 shots for his league-leading 16th win of the season. The Mavericks finished their five-game home stand with four wins, and the team will head to Rapid City next weekend for a pair of games against the Rush.

Riley Emmerson gave the Mavericks 1-0 lead when he lifted a rebound over Mallards' goaltender John Murray. John-Scott Dickson and Trevor Kell assisted on the goal, but the lead lasted less than 20 seconds as the Mallards quickly answered. Anthony Perdicaro beat Mavericks' goaltender Mike Clemente and tied the game, 1-1.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the second period. Missouri regained the lead on Jardine's first goal at the 13:02 mark, but the Mallards again answered quickly when Mike Hellyer scored less than one minute later. Missouri took a 3-2 lead on Andrew Courtney's ninth goal of the season. Thinel earned his second assist on the play and Jardine also assisted. Through two periods, the Mavericks held a 3-2 lead and a 22-18 shots advantage.

Early into the third period, Mallards' forward Matt Boyd redirected a shot past Clemente to tie the game for a third time. He was assisted by Matt Duffy and Perdicaro, but again the Mavericks took the lead at the 7:55 mark of the period. Jardine took a pass from Courtney and notched his second goal of the game on a breakaway and the goal proved to be the game winner.

Missouri finished 0-for-4 on the power play and the Mallards were 0-for-3. The Mavericks also had the edge in shots with36 shots compared to 33 for Quad City.
