Matos Signs With Ducks

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 3, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of pitcher Josue Matos. The right hander last pitched for the Carolina Giants in the Puerto Rican League, where he went 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA in 12 games.

"Josue has been a dependable pitcher throughout his career," says Ducks manager Gary Carter. "He brings valuable experience to our squad, and we expect him to be a significant part of the pitching staff."

The 31-year-old had spent 10 seasons in the Mariners, Blue Jays and Phillies systems. In 212 career minor league appearances (113 starts), he has 41 wins with a 4.05 ERA in 854 innings pitched. Josue's best season came in 2003, when he complied a 7-2 record with 2.24 ERA in 88.1 innings pitched for San Antonio (AA, Mariners) of the Texas League.

Matos was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 27th round of the1996 draft.
