MATCH RECAP: Sounders FC 2 Falls 2-0 Versus Swope Park Rangers In Season Finale
September 24, 2016 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
KANSAS CITY, MO - Sounders FC 2 (9-14-8, 35 points) wrapped-up its second season of USL action with a 2-0 loss at Swope Park Rangers (15-10-5, 51 points) on Saturday evening. S2 made a late playoff push with a four-match unbeaten streak from August 19 - September 11 (2-0-2), but a pair of losses, including Saturday's regular season finale, kept S2 from reaching consecutive postseason appearances.
In the 11th minute, Swope Park jumped out to a 1-0 lead. On a corner-kick, midfielder Ayrton sent a dangerous ball into a crowded area in front of goal, where defender Amer Didic rose for a header that sailed past Seattle goalkeeper Charlie Lyon and into the back of the net.
Although the score-line remained 1-0 for the remainder of the half, Seattle suffered a setback in the 41st minute with a red-card ejection issued to defender Nouhou Tolo. Tolo's challenge from behind occurred just outside the 18-yard-box when Swope Park's Kris Tyrpak slipped behind the 19-year-old left-back.
The host side extended the lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute. Substitute Dane Kelly won a ball in the right side of the area and sent a low cross in front of goal, where a charging Tyler Pasher shook off a challenge from Devon Fisher for the close-range goal.
Of note, Saturday's match marked the professional debut of Sounders FC Academy forward Milo Barton, who started up top alongside Carlos Patino and Shandon Hopeau, a fellow Academy product who made his first professional start.
