Syracuse, NY - (August 20th, 2016) - The Syracuse Chiefs defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 6-5, on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Jason Martinson hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Michael Taylor also delivered a key two-run single in the win.

Lehigh Valley (76-52) scored the game's first run against Syracuse starter Austin Voth. With one out, J.P. Crawford singled to center field. Following a groundout, Darin Ruf hit a double to right-center, plating Crawford from first to give the IronPigs a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse (57-71) answered back in the bottom of the third off Lehigh Valley's starter David Buchanan. Brian Jeroloman led off the frame with a walk. A sacrifice bunt from Voth then moved Jeroloman to second. Christopher Bostick followed with a double down the left-field line, putting runners on second and third. Jeroloman did not score on the play, as he froze between second and third on the wind-aided fly-ball double. He scored in the next at-bat on a Brian Goodwin groundout to even the score, 1-1.

The IronPigs retaliated in the sixth. With one out, Ruf and Cody Asche hit back-to-back singles. Andrew Knapp followed with a walk to load the bases. Brock Stassi drove home Ruf with a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat, putting Lehigh Valley back on top, 2-1.

The Chiefs evened the score again in the bottom of the inning. Brian Goodwin led off with a single into center field and advanced to second base on a passed ball in the ensuing at-bat. After a strikeout and groundout, Neftali Soto singled to right field, bringing home Goodwin to tie the score, 2-2.

Lehigh Valley broke the tie once again in the seventh. Justin DeFratus came on in relief of Voth and Cam Perkins met him with an infield single. After a pop out and strikeout, Ruf hit a two-run home run to left field, giving the IronPigs a 4-2 advantage.

Billy Gardner's bunch grabbed their first lead in the bottom of the inning. Jason Martinson led off with a walk and Jeroloman followed with a single to center field, moving Martinson to third base. The hit spelled the end of the night for Buchanan, as Patrick Schuster entered in relief. Caleb Ramsey grounded into a fielder's choice in the following at-bat, scoring Martinson, but retiring Jeroloman at second. Christopher Bostick then walked, putting runners on first and second with one out. Goodwin followed with a groundout to second base, moving Ramsey and Bostick to second and third. With two outs, Michael Taylor hit a line-drive single to right field, scoring Ramsey and Bostick to give the Chiefs a 5-4 lead.

The IronPigs answered right back in the top of the eighth. With DeFratus back on the mound, Stassi led off with a home run to right field, knotting the score, 5-5. The home run was Stassi's 11th on the year.

The Chiefs took the lead for the final time in the eighth. Dalier Hinojosa entered in relief of Schuster, and with one out, Martinson hit a solo home run to right-center field to give the Chiefs the final 6-5 advantage. The homer was Martinson's 11th as well.

Syracuse returns to action Sunday afternoon for the final game of a five-game homestand with Lehigh Valley. Mat Latos is scheduled to start for the Chiefs against Anthony Vasquez for the IronPigs. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
