Martinez And Kings Agree On A New Two-Year Contract

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have agreed to terms on a new two-year contract with defenseman Alec Martinez, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Martinez, who turns 26 years old on July 26, appeared in 27 games for the Kings this past season, recording five points (1-4=5) and 10 penalty minutes. Martinez also played in seven of the Kings' 18 post-season games, recording two assists and eight penalty minutes.

Martinez has played his entire four-year NHL career with the Kings, appearing in 142 regular season contests while collecting 33 points (12-21=33) and 38 penalty minutes, as well as playing in 33 post-season games. The 6-foot-1, 206-pound native of Rochester Hills, Michigan, was originally selected by the Kings in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

The defenseman recorded 20 goals and 49 assists for 69 points and 82 penalty minutes in 147 regular season games with the Monarchs from 2008-11. Martinez also collected three assists in 16 games during the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs.
