Frisco RoughRiders News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (July 23, 2016) - In a long back-and-forth affair, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fell 8-7 in 14 innings to the Corpus Christi Hooks Saturday night at Whataburger Field.

The RoughRiders (50-48 overall, 12-17 second half) broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 14th on a solo home run from Luis Marte. Marte finished with a career-high-tying four hits in seven at-bats Saturday. In the first three games of the series at Corpus Christi, Marte is 8-for-15 with a double, a home run, and six RBI.

However, the Hooks (61-38, 14-15) tied the game on a solo home run from Nick Tanielu and won it on a walk-off single from Garrett Stubbs later in the inning.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa also had a big night for the RoughRiders, going 4-for-7 with two RBI. His second RBI of the night came in the top of the eighth, breaking a 4-4 tie with an RBI single. It was Kiner-Falefa's third four-hit game of the season, helping him extend his on-base streak to 22 games, the longest active streak in the Texas League. He also threw out both would-be base stealers that ran against him. The first-year catcher has caught 14 of 28 (5o%) runners this year.

In addition to the 7-6 lead in the 14th, Frisco had leads of 4-1 after six innings and 6-5 after eight but saw both vanish in Saturday's loss. The Hooks tied the game with three tallies in the seventh and chipped away at a 6-4 deficit through the middle of the eighth. Conrad Gregor forced extras with a game-tying solo homer with one in the ninth.

David Perez (1-4) allowed the walk-off after throwing four shutout innings. He finished with 4 1/3 innings pitched, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks, both intentional. He struck out five. Albert Minnis (2-0), who allowed the go-ahead home run to Marte, earned the win for the Hooks.
