Marquis Floyd named Ironman of the Year

SHREVEPORT, La. - Rio Grande Valley Dorados wide receiver/defensive back MARQUIS FLOYD has earned the Cutters Gloves Ironman of the Year Award, as voted on by af2 head coaches and beat writers.
Floyd, in his second af2 season, was the Dorados' leading receiver, catching 101 passes for 1,452 yards and 29 touchdowns during the regular season. He caught a touchdown pass in all 16 games and also recorded four rushing touchdowns for the season.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Floyd finished the season tied for fourth in the league in interceptions with nine, returning them for 145 total yards. He also registered 47.0 tackles (42UA-10AT), 11 passes broken up and two forced fumbles. He even threw a 23-yard touchdown pass against South Georgia.
Floyd was named Ironman of the Game four times, Defensive Player of the Game twice and Offensive Player of the Game once during the regular season. In Week 12 Floyd earned Ironman of the Week honors for his performance against Central Valley. On offense Floyd caught seven passes for 73 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown. On defense he intercepted two passes, returning them a total of 24 yards.
The former University of West Georgia player scored at least three touchdowns in six of the Dorados' final seven games of the season. The Dorados won five of these seven games as they pushed towards their first playoff berth in franchise history. They defeated the Quad City Steamwheelers 56-38 in the First Round and then upset the Tulsa Talons 65-42 in the Semifinals to advance to their first Conference Championship in franchise history.
Floyd is the first Dorados player in franchise history to be honored with a league award.
