Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON NC- The Wilson Tobs fell to the Morehead City Marlins by a final score of 7-4 Wednesday night at Historic Fleming Stadium. The Tobs lost to the Marlins for the second time this season.

A double by the number nine hitter in the Marlins line up proved to be the difference. Jake Gronsky was 2-4 on the day but had no bigger hit than his 2 run double in the 6th inning to put the Marlins ahead for good 6-4.

The scoring began in the top of the first when Morehead City manufactured a run after a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt. Another lead off walk in the third to Austin Wulf and an RBI double off the bat of Chase McDonald chased home another run making the score 2-0 Marlins.

The Tobs struck back in the bottom of the third when Keith Morrisroe walked and scored and Alex Jones who reached on a base hit, rounded third and touched home on the Tony Wieber RBI single. After three innings the score was tied at 2.

After the Marlins snuck another run across the plate in the top of the forth Wilson scored two runs in the bottom half and got their first lead of the day. The difference in the forth was two Tobs players reached base via being hit by a pitch. There were also two passed balls in the inning one of which scored a run. Morrisroe added an RBI single to give the Tobs the lead scoring Ryan Daughtry.

The lead was short lived, in the fifth the Marlins scratched out another run after a second straight lead off walk to Wulf. Sam Kimmel laid down his second sacrifice bunt and then after a wild pitch Wulf was standing on third base with only one out. McDonald (who had 3 hits and 3RBI) in the game hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Wulf. That tied the game at 4 through 5innings and the Marlins never looked back.

The Marlins added a little bit of a cushion to their lead in the top of the seventh when another run scored on a wild pitch. The score ended up Morehead City 7 and Wilson 4.

The losing pitcher for the Tobs was Chase Bebout who is now (0-1) after pitching 5.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 5 earned runs with three walks and 2 strikeouts. Chase also un-corked a wild pitch. The winning pitcher for the Marlins was Kyle Wigmore who improved to (1-1) on the young season. The time of the game was three hours and four minutes and the attendance was 1123.

The Tobs are back in action Thursday night when the Petersburg Generals come to Historic Fleming Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Thursday is yet another Thirsty Thursday where all draft beers are sold for $1.50 at the beer garden. Please drink responsibly.
