Marlies to battle Grand Rapids in round one
April 10, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies will begin their quest for the 2006 Calder Cup by playing North Division rival Grand Rapids - AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings - in the opening round of this season's playoffs. Under a 2-3-2 format, the Griffins will host the first game of the best-of-seven North Division Semifinal series on Friday, April 21 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Game 2 will take place the following evening before the series shifts to southern Ontario for games 3 through 5. If Game 6 and/or Game 7 are required, the series will return to Michigan on Sunday, April 30.
The Marlies (40-28-6-3) and Griffins (54-19-1-4) split the regular-season series by each winning three games. The most recent contest, March 18 at Grand Rapids, saw Donald MacLean score with 2:59 remaining in overtime for his second consecutive game-winning goal versus Toronto this season. By obtaining one point in the overtime loss, the Marlies captured their seventh of a possible 12 points versus Grand Rapids this season. The Griffins obtained six of a possible 12 points in winning three games outright.
Tickets for the first three Marlies' home playoff dates are on-sale now and can be purchased by calling the team's ticket line at (416) 597-PUCK. Fans are encouraged to visit www.torontomarlies.com/tickets.tm should they wish to order tickets online. Following a league-wide minimum increase of $1 over regular-season ticket prices, single-game playoff ticket prices will range from $11 to $55 CDN funds.
The Marlies have three regular-season games remaining and will return to action by hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs - AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens - on Friday evening at Ricoh Coliseum. After playing at Hamilton on Saturday, the Marlies will play their final regular-season game on Sunday afternoon when they confront the Syracuse Crunch at 5 p.m.
