Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Generals snapped a four-game losing streak and made some history Sunday afternoon in an 8-5 win over Chattanooga at The Ballpark at Jackson. Tyler Martlette's two-run homer in the eighth inning turned out to be the difference as Jackson tied a franchise record with its 84th victory.

With the game tied at five in the eighth, Jackson (84-54, 38-30) strung together some big hits against Chattanooga's Randy Rosario (0-1, 10.50). After a bunt single from Leon Landry, Tyler Marlette came through with an opposite-field blast over the fence in right field to make it 7-5. Benji Gonzalez added an insurance run with an RBI single later in the inning to put the Generals on top 8-5.

Ryne Harper (S, 6) was dominant in the ninth to pick up his sixth save of the season, striking out the side on 14 pitches. In 68 innings of work this year, Harper has 95 strikeouts.

The Generals took an early lead behind a big first inning. With Ian Miller at second base, Benji Gonzalez laid down a bunt that Chattanooga catcher Jairo Rodriguez picked up and threw errantly to first allowing a run to score. Lookouts starter Ryan eadds then hit Tyler O'Neill and walked Ryan Casteel to load the bases. Leon Landry came through, bouncing a triple down the line in right to clear the bases. Marlette capped off the scoring and started off his three-RBI day with a sac fly to get Landry home, to put Jackson up 5-0.

Chattanooga (38-31, 74-65) immediately got back in the game, scoring twice in the second on two hits and two Jackson errors. In the third, the Lookouts added two more to make it a one-run ball game. They finally knocked Tyler Herb out of the game in the sixth, as T.J. White knotted the game with an RBI single to left field.

Southpaw Brandon Sisk (1-0, 0.00) was masterful in relief to earn his first win of the year. He allowed just one hit and one walk in 2.2 innings, stranding the potential go-ahead run on base in three consecutive innings.

After scoring eight runs in their last seven games, the Generals matched that in Sunday's contest. The team's eight runs were the most they had scored in a game since August 20 against Birmingham.
