Marksmen Add High-Scoring Rookie

Fayetteville, N.C- Coming into his first season of professional hockey, forward Shane Bennett has joined the Marksmen, the team announced on Friday.

Bennett joins the Marksmen following a one-year stint with SUNY-Cortland of the NCAA III. In just 12 games with SUNY, the offensive-minded forward scored six goals among seven total points.

The Grand Island, New York native began his junior career in the Ontario Junior Hockey League during the 2010/11 season, lacing up for the Buffalo Junior Sabres. In his first season with the Junior Sabres, Bennett notched 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists), in 48 games.

Bennett rejoined the Junior Sabres for the 2011/12 season, skating in 49 contests and increasing his scoring output, depositing 27 goals, 28 assists for a season-total of 55 points.

Beginning his third season in the OJHL, Bennett suited up for the Milton Icehawks and continued to showcase his scoring touch, popping home 87 points (45 goals, 42 assists) in 54 games during the 2012/13 campaign. Bennett continued with the Icehawks for the following season, appearing in 51 matches, depositing 36 goals among 41 points for a total of 77 points for the season.

Switching leagues, Bennett then joined the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League, donning the Halton Ravens jersey. In his only season with the Ravens, Bennett amassed 108 points (53 goals, 55 assists).
