Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Gorillas concluded 2005 by having center Derek Hahn named as a Southern Conference starter to this year's Obra Homes Central Hockey League All-Star Game on January 18th in Hidalgo, Texas. Amarillo's doubled the fun to begin 2006 as captain Mark DeSantis and winger Scott Wray were named this afternoon as two of the men to help fill out the Southern Conference roster. The game will be held at the Dodge Arena, home of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

"It's great to see three players so deserving of being a part of the All-Star team," said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Joe Ferras. "It's truly great for our organization. Mark will be attending an All-Star weekend yet again and Scott has had sensational point production since his arrival back to Amarillo from London. The entire team is very proud of all three of the guys heading to Rio."

DeSantis, the captain and player-coach for the Gorillas, is in his 13th season of professional hockey and is closing in on 500 points and 800 games played in his illustrious tenure spanning six leagues. Earlier this season, the defenseman surpassed 2,000 career penalty minutes. This year, his fourth in Amarillo, DeSantis has 21 points on five goals and 16 assists in 25 contests. His assist and point totals rank just outside of the league's Top 10 among defensemen.

Wray, currently riding a six-game, 11-point scoring streak, is 13 points shy of 300 in his seven-year career, parts of the last four spent in Amarillo. His totals have been helped by 12 goals and 13 helpers in only 14 Gorillas games this season since returning to the Panhandle from the London Racers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) on November 23rd. The left wing was named the CHL's Oakley Player of the Week for the week of November 28th â?? December 4th after a three-game, eight-point performance, highlighted by three power play goals and a game-winner.

Hahn, as previously announced, was the league's leading vote-getter, appearing on 85.2% of all Southern Conference ballots compared to the 64.3% garnered by Wichita's Joe Blaznek in the Northern Conference. The event will be Hahn's third overall and second straight as a starter. The 2002-2003 CHL Rookie of the Year has a six-point lead over Blaznek in the CHL scoring race with 53 on 21 goals and 32 assists in only 27 games. Hahn also ranks in the league's Top 10 in five offensive categories including goals (tied for 3rd), assists (2nd), points, game-winning goals (4, tied for 5th) and shooting percentage (.186, 9th).
