Virginia Beach Mariners News Release

Tampa, Florida - Mariner forward David Castellanos was named to the A-League Team of the Week for his two goals scored in three games during the Mariners' west coast swing last weekend.

Against unbeatenVancouver on May 27, Castellanos scored the Mariners' lone goal in the team's 3-1 loss. His goal in the 16th minute put Virginia Beach up 1-0 and marked the first time this season that the Whitecaps had to play from behind. Castellanos and forward Warren Ukah were pressuring the defense in the Whitecaps' box. Catellanos was able to get possession and scored through goalkeeper Mike Franks' legs.

On May 29 against unbeaten Portland, the Mariners came back from two down to tie the Timbers starting with Castellanos' goal in the 60th minute. Mariner midfielder Tim O'Neill found the speedy forward tearing down the middle on a counter attack and sent a long ball towards the left side of the box. Castellanos got his head on it and put it into the net.

The Philadelphia native has now scored 5 points for Virginia Beach.

The Mariners will host the Seattle Sounders Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Sportsplex. Virginia Beach will host Soccer Moms/Ladies Night and all ladies will get in free accompanied by another paying fan. The match will also feature a women's match at halftime and door prizes geared to our female fans.
