Marcos Sánchez Called up to Panama Men's National Team

Washington, D.C. (March 8, 2013) - D.C. United today announced that midfielder Marcos Sánchez has been called up to the Panama Men's National Team for training camp ahead of two 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Panama will face Jamaica on March 22 at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica and Honduras on March 26 at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama. Sánchez will miss the Black-and-Red's second home match of the MLS season against the Columbus Crew on Saturday, March 23 (3:30 ET p.m.; NBC Sports Network).

D.C. United recently acquired Sánchez on a one-year loan from Panamanian club Tauro FC on Feb. 26. Sánchez features regularly for the Panama National Team and most recently assisted on a goal for the country in a 2-2 draw with Costa Rica in its first game of the Hexagonal Round on Feb. 6.

Sánchez, 23, has made 18 appearances (12 starts) for Panama's National Team and has tallied two goals for the nation. Sánchez debuted for D.C. United last Saturday (March 2) in the season opener against the Houston Dynamo, playing 17 minutes as a substitute. Previously with Tauro FC, Sánchez started four games in 2012 in the team's 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League campaign. In total, Sánchez appeared in 66 games (49 starts) and scored four goals for Tauro FC from 2010-13.
