Marauders take game 1 with 11-6 win over Mets Mets season on the line in game 2 on Wednesday

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders put the St. Lucie Mets on the brink of elimination with an 11-6 win in game 1 of the FSL South Division Series on Tuesday at Tradition Field.

Six of the first seven Marauders batters reached base and scored against Chris Flexen before the Mets could record the second out of the first inning.

Chase Simpson and Christian Kelley hit a pair of two-run singles that put Bradenton up 6-0.

Before the Mets could catch their breath, Bradenton starter Mitch Keller retired the first five batters he faced.

Keller, Pittsburgh's No. 5 prospect, was hitting 99 miles per hour consistently through the first few innings. Over the first four innings he allowed one hit and struck out seven.

The Mets fought back with three runs in the fifth, including scoring the third run on a two-out David Thompson double to make it 6-3. The Mets brought Jhoan Urena to the plate as the tying run in the sixth but Tanner Anderson induced an inning-ending double play.

The Marauders put the game away by scoring five runs in the seventh. Jordan Luplow hit a three-run homer to make it 11-3.

Thompson hit another two-out RBI double in the seventh. The Mets added two runs in the ninth on a RBI walk to John Mora and a run-scoring ground out from Luis Guillorme.

The Marauders scored their 11 runs and pounded out 15 hits despite striking out 16 times.

Flexen settled down after the first inning and did not allow another run. He struck out seven.

Domingo Tapia fired two scoreless innings and Tyler Bashlor struck out the side in the ninth.

At the plate, Thompson went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Patrick Biond went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a RBI.

Bradenton's Pablo Reyes went 4 for 5. Kevin Kramer and Chase Simpson had three hits apiece.

Keller ended up pitching 5.1 innings. He gave up three runs and struck out eight to earn the victory.

The Mets will try to keep their season alive in a do-or-die game 2 on Wednesday at Bradenton. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. The Mets went 0-9 at McKechnie Field.
