Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE - Former Netherlands international and Seattle Reign FC forward Manon Melis has announced her retirement from professional women's soccer.
Melis retired from international soccer earlier this year, after helping the Netherlands to their first ever World Cup appearance in 2015. She is the all-time leading scorer for the Netherlands national team.
The forward spent most of her career in the Swedish Damallsvenskan, playing for LdB FC Malmö, Linköpings FC, and Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC. During Melis' 2010 and 2011 seasons with LdB FC Malmö, she was the league's top scorer.
Melis appeared in 16 matches for Reign FC this season, starting in 15. While she missed four matches due to a fractured left tibia, Melis was in fantastic form after returning from injury. The Netherlands native tallied seven goals on the season, good for most on the team, at one point scoring in five straight matches. She also provided two assists on the season.
