Mannino, Wolves Hand Aeros 4-0 Shutout Loss

March 31, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Houston Aeros News Release

HOUSTON - G Peter Mannino (24-3-1) stopped all 32 shots faced and C Matt Anderson tallied a goal and an assist as the Chicago Wolves (47-21-1-6) shutout the Houston Aeros (30-32-7-5) 4-0 in front of 3,508 at Toyota Center Wednesday night. G Wade Dubielewicz made 16 saves over two periods to take the loss.

The Wolves maintained possession over the first 36 seconds of the contest culminating in the game's first goal. LW Greg Stewart jumped on a loose puck at the top of the crease and went top shelf for his sixth goal of the season. With 1:07 remaining in the first period, Chicago added to its lead. Anderson snapped a shot on net from the right wing half boards that Dubielewicz looked to have covered up; however, the puck found its way past the Aeros netminder and Anderson followed up his own shot to bang it home for his 16th of the campaign.

The Wolves tacked on another pair of goals in the middle frame. At the 12:45 mark C Riley Holzapfel dropped the puck back to D Paul Postma in the high slot who found the back of the net for his 13th of the year. Fellow defenseman Arturs Kulda made it 4-0 at 17:38 when he sent a wrister past Dubielewicz from the top of left faceoff circle for goal number six of the season.

G Darcy Kuemper made his AHL debut when he relieved Dubielewicz to start the third period. He'd stop all four shots faced in his first outing as neither team found the net in the final stanza.

The Aeros outshot Chicago 32-24 on the night and both clubs went 0-for-5 on the power play. Mannino improved to 4-0-0 against the Aeros this season and 5-0-0 over his career. With the loss, the Aeros fell to 0-6-0-1 against the Wolves for the season series and finished the month of March with a 2-5-1-4 record.

The Aeros close out their season series with Chicago Friday with a 7:35 p.m. tilt from Toyota Center. Aeros fans are encouraged to wear red to the game as the team will again sport their alternate red uniforms. Watch the game live on ahllive.com or listen to Joe O'Donnell's call on 1070 AM-KNTH.
