Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - On Tuesday night, Trey Mancini kicked his Major League career off with a bang. Facing another ex-Key in Eduardo Rodriguez, the former Notre Dame product cranked a solo homer to left for his first big league hit.

In his first game with the Orioles, Mancini, 24, went 1-for-3 while serving as the designated hitter. He batted seventh. By playing in his first game, the Floridian became the 152nd Keys player to reach the big leagues. This year eight ex-Keys have reached the game's highest level, with Mancini joining the likes of Eddie Gamboa, Parker Bridwell, Donnie Hart, Steven Brault, Ariel Miranda, Ty Kelly and Ashur Tolliver.

In the last two seasons, 17 former Frederick players have reached the big leagues. Last year, nine reached the Majors, making it the third-highest number of Keys alumni to advance to the big leagues in a season.

Mancini joined the Orioles this past weekend, after having his contract selected on September 18. Before joining Baltimore, he split time between the Double-A Bowie Baysox and Triple-A Norfolk Tides. In 142 games, he hit .282 with 20 home runs, 68 RBIs, 26 doubles and five triples. The first baseman was named the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month in April and June this season.

A member of the Keys in 2014-15, Mancini batted .341 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 52 games last season before a June call-up to Double-A. Finishing the year strong, he hit .359 in 84 games with the Baysox and won the Eastern League batting title. Mancini led all of Minor League Baseball with 182 hits and was selected as the Orioles Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year.

An eighth round pick by the O's out of Notre Dame in 2013, he led the Big East in hitting (.389) and total bases (138) during his junior year in South Bend.

The Keys will announce their 2017 schedule at a later date. Fans can follow the team all season long by visiting frederickkeys.com.
