Manatees Swept with McBroom's Bat

DUNEDIN, FL - 1B Ryan McBroom's walk-off single capped a two-run comeback in the bottom of the tenth inning for the Dunedin Blue Jays (32-17) on Saturday night in their 4-3 win over the Brevard County Manatees (14-35).
The statistical highlight of the night came from Brevard's starter RHP Phil Bickford. The former draft pick of the Blue Jays struck out ten over five innings in his second start since being traded to the Milwaukee organization. Both starters pitched well with RHP Luis Santos recording a quality start, but neither received a decision.
The Jays scored first with a McBroom double in the first inning, the only run Bickford allowed. Santos was clean through five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth. With 1B Fidel Pena on first, 2B Blake Allemand doubled to the wall, scoring the tying run. Two batters later, C Mitch Ghelfi singled up the middle with two outs to put the Manatees up a run.
In the bottom of the seventh, LF L.B. Dantzler tied the game at two with a solo home run to lead off the inning. From there the game remained scoreless until the tenth.
After tossing scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth, LHP Jose Fernandez (W, 1-1) surrendered a run in the tenth on an Allemand single with two outs.
RHP Jon Olczak (BS, 5 & L, 1-3) blew his fifth save of the season with two outs in the bottom of the frame. With McBroom at the plate and runners on second and third, RF Josh Almonte came home on a wild pitch. McBroom then punched a single to right field to bring 2B Dickie Joe Thon home, ending the game and sweeping Brevard County with the 4-3 win.
The Jays begin a two game set with Clearwater Sunday night. RHP Brad Allen opposes RHP Will Morris. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
