Maltais Jersey Retirement and Annual Fan Appreciation Night Highlight Regular-Season Finale

April 12, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release

The Chicago Wolves will retire former captain Steve Maltais' No. 11 jersey and host their annual Fan Appreciation Night when they close out their regular-season slate against the Houston Aeros at the Allstate Arena on Sat., April 15, at 7 p.m.

The only player to skate in each of the team's first 11 seasons, Maltais will join current Wolves Assistant Coach and former goaltender Wendell Young as the only players to have their numbers immortalized in franchise history. Maltais finished his Wolves career as the franchise's all-time leader in goals (454); assists (496); points (950); penalty minutes (1,061) and games played (839).

During warm-up, Wolves players will wear one-of-a kind No. 11 jerseys that will be signed by Maltais and the player who wore it. The jerseys will be raffled at the Customer Service Booth in the East Lobby with proceeds benefiting various Chicago-area charities.

To help celebrate the night, Maltais' former teammates Rob Brown and Greg Hawgood will be on hand throughout the game to sign autographs and meet and greet fans during the first intermission. Fans will also have the chance to take their picture with the Turner and Calder Cups, which Maltais helped the Wolves capture during his tenure.

The first 5,000 fans to enter the building will receive a commemorative Steve Maltais puck, courtesy of Wayne Messmer & Associates. Every fan who enters the arena will also receive a scratch-and-win card, which guarantees a prize. The back of the cards can be used to enter a drawing for the grand prize: round trip tickets for two and a three-night stay at the Paradisus Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic, courtesy of Funjet Vacations. Second prize is a $200 gift card courtesy of Discover Card and the third prize is a luxury box suite for one regular-season Wolves game in 2006-07.

Following Saturday's contest, the Wolves players will give fans the "shirts off their backs" to 19 lucky recipients who purchased winning scratch-and-win cards during the season, with proceeds benefiting various Chicago-area charities. The winners will join the players on the ice to receive the game-worn, autographed jerseys.
