JUPITER, Fla. - Joe Maloney went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Fort Myers Miracle to a 3-2 series opening win over the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium in Tuesday night.

Joe Maloney got the Miracle on the board in the top of the second. Chris Paul led off by drawing a walk from Cardinals starter Ian McKinney. After Edgar Corcino lined out to left, Trey Vavra was retired on a ground out to short while Paul moved up to second. Maloney swung at the first pitch from McKinney (6-4) and pulled a grounder through the left side. Paul raced around third and slid home safely, 1-0.

Palm Beach jumped in front in the bottom of the fourth. Darren Seferina tripled to start the frame off Miracle starter Fernando Romero. Blake Drake then lined the next pitch into left field for an RBI single and Seferina scored. Collin Radack's ground out to third advanced Drake to second and Casey Grayson followed with an RBI double to push the Cardinals out to a 2-1 advantage.

The Miracle clawed back to tie the game in the top of the fifth. Vavra led off with a double then moved to third on a single from Maloney. After Witt drew a walk off McKinney, Brian Navarreto hit a slow roller up the middle. Palm Beach shortstop Oscar Mercado grabbed the ball and tagged second for the force play, but could not complete a double play. Vavra scored to tie the game, 2-2, and Navarreto was credited with an RBI.

Fort Myers took the lead back in the sixth. With two outs and nobody on base, Corcino coaxed a walk from McKinney. Vavra followed with a single through the left side. Maloney then picked up his third hit of the night and second RBI with a bouncing ball through the middle to plate Corcino, 3-2.

Maloney finished the night 4-for-4 with two RBI.

Romero (1-0) went seven innings and surrendered just two runs on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Yorman Landa tossed a perfect final two innings to record his sixth save. Landa struck out two.

The Miracle (37-37, 3-2) continue the series against the Cardinals (35-39, 3-3) at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday evening. Fans can listen to the broadcast on MiracleBaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman.
