Quad City Mallards News Release
BRAMPTON, Ont. - Nolan LaPorte scored twice and C.J. Motte made 41 saves as the Quad City Mallards (11-7-1) rolled past the host Brampton Beast (8-7-3) 6-1 Friday night.
The Mallards took control with three straight second period goals. That onslaught started only after Brampton's David Pacan poked in a loose puck from the doorstep to halve what had been a 2-0 Mallard lead at 5:47 of the second. The Mallards' Michael Parks responded by pouncing on a rebound just 13 seconds later. That goal brought about the replacement of starting Beast goaltender Bryan Pitton by Zach Fucale, who surrendered the fourth Mallard goal on a LaPorte tip-in one minute 17 seconds after entering the game. The Beast was on the power play when Brady Brassart swooped into the Brampton goal mouth to score the Mallards' fifth at 10:02 of the second.
Motte helped the Mallards retain a comfortable cushion by stopping 18 shots in the second period alone.
LaPorte capped of the Mallard victory by firing another shorthanded goal into the empty Brampton net in the final minute of the game.
The Mallards took a lead they would never relinquish at 5:30 of the first period when Andrew Panzarella jammed in the rebound after he charged into the Brampton goalmouth only to be- momentarily- denied by Pitton. At 16:04 of the first Alex Petan raced up the right wing into Brampton territory and snapped the puck home from the faceoff circle to stretch the gap to 2-0.
The Mallards return to action on the road tomorrow night against the Toledo Walleye. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night, December 7, against the Kalamazoo Wings. That game and a ll Mallards Wednesday night home games this season face off at the special early start time of 6:35.
