Quad City Mallards News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio - A.J. Jenks scored at 54 seconds of overtime to give the host Toledo Walleye (27-11-4) a 3-2 win over the Quad City Mallards (19-19-5) Sunday after the Mallards battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force sudden death and earn one point.

Shane Berschbach, who- like Jenks- notched a goal and an assist, fed the puck across the ice to Jenks who swooped into the Mallards goalmouth from the right wing to score the dramatic game winner.

The Mallards fell despite outshootoing the Walleye 31-20 and producing a determined comeback. Brady Brassart got the Mallards on the scoreboard for the first time by charging down the slot unchecked to backhand home a power play goal at 14:39 of the second period. At 16:55 of the second Austin Coldwell tied the game at two with a wrist shot from the blue line.

It was the Walleye who had struck twice in the first period. Toledo took a 1-0 lead while on the power play when Mallard goaltender Steve Michalek stopped Berschbach's bid only for the rebound to carom in off the Mallards' Jake Baker at 5:44 of the first. Toledo's Scott Czarnowczan buried a rebound to double the gap at the 9:55 mark, but any Walleye thoughts of a comfortable evening were soon dispelled.

The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
