Mallards Ink Veteran Forward Grant, Trade Klotz to Jacksonville

MOLINE, Ill. (December 19, 2017) - The Quad City Mallards have signed forward Triston Grant to a standard player contract and have traded forward Garrett Klotz to the Jacksonville Icemen in exchange financial considerations, the Mallards announced today.
Grant, 33, has not yet played this season after seeing action for the Rapid City Rush and Wichita Thunder as well as the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators last year. The 6-foot-1, 221-pound, Neepawa, Manitoba native scored six times and added five assists to total 11 points in 43 games with Rapid City after going without a point in four games with Wichita. He played a single game for Binghamton.
Grant has played 11 career National Hockey League games. Grant played eight games- and picked up one assist- for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2006-07 and played three times for the Nashville Predators in 2009-10. He was originally selected by the Flyers in the ninth round of 2004 NHL Entry Draft with the two hundred eighty-sixth overall choice.
Grant has spent the bulk of his career in the AHL. Over his first twelve seasons, he recorded 73 goals, 80 assists and 153 points in 641 AHL games with the Senators, Philadelphia Phantoms, Milwaukee Admirals, Rochester Americans, Oklahoma City Barons, Grand Rapids Griffins. In 2012-13 he helped the Griffins to the AHL's Calder Cup title.
Grant played five seasons in the major junior Western Hockey League with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Vancouver Giants before turning professional.
Klotz, 29, went pointless while picking up 26 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Mallards this season. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Regina, Saskatchewan native returned to North America this year for his tenth season in pro hockey after playing in the United Kingdom last season for Coventry Blaze of the Elite Ice Hockey League.
Klotz, who was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft with the sixty-sixth overall pick, has played for eleven teams in four leagues on two continents over the course of his career. He has totaled 30 goals, 43 assists, 73 points and 989 penalty minutes in 430 career games.
The Mallards next play at home tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Mallards Wednesday home games this season.
