Mallards Hit Road This Week for Three Games

Quad City Mallards News Release


Moline, IL – The Mallards went 0-2-1 in Week Eight of the 2004-05 season. The team looks to regroup this week with a three-game road trip to Rockford and Port Huron. Quad City is at Rockford for the teams’ sixth meeting on Friday night. The Mallards then head to Port Huron for back-to-back games with the Beacons on Saturday and Sunday.

Upcoming Games

· Friday, December 10th, 7:05 p.m. at the Rockford IceHogs

The First Capital Financial Pre-Game Show starts at 6:40 p.m. The Mallards face-off with the Hogs in Rockford for the fourth time beginning at 7:05 p.m.

· Saturday, December 11th, 6:05 p.m. and Sunday, December 12th, 4:05 p.m. at the Port Huron Beacons

The Mallards make their first appearance in Port Huron for 2004-05 on Saturday with a return match scheduled for Sunday afternoon. The Mallards hold a 6-2-1 record all-time vs. the Port Huron franchise including a 2-1 win the last time the teams met on November 12th at The MARK.

Upcoming Promotions

· December 26th vs. Fort Wayne-Genesis Stick Giveaway

On December 26th, the Mallards and Genesis are giving away 2,500 hockey sticks to fans that attend the Mallards game vs. the Fort Wayne Komets. Game time is 3:00 p.m. as the Mallards host a post-holiday showdown with the Komets.

· December 30th vs. Fort Wayne-Voodoo Doll Giveaway

On December 30th, the Mallards host Fort Wayne. “Kometko” Voodoo Dolls will be given away to 3,000 fans courtesy of Casino Rock Island and the Mallards.

Duck Talk

Tonight, the Mallards are back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge for Duck Talk beginning at 7 p.m. This weekÂ’s guests are Jason Deskins, Mike Kompon and Mike Burgoyne along with coach Paul Gillis. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

The Mallards hit the road looking to avenge a 6-1 defeat to Rockford on Sunday at The MARK. The Mallards are 1-3-1 vs. the Hogs this season. At the Metrocentre in Rockford, the Mallards are 1-2-0.

Saturday, December 11 and Sunday, December 12 at Port Huron

The Mallards are in Port Huron for the first time this year on Saturday and Sunday. The Mallards beat Port Huron 2-1 on November 12th at The MARK in the teamsÂ’ only previous meeting. Sergei Durdin and Marty Standish scored for the Mallards in the win.

Cabana Streaks to Three Goals in Three Games

Paul Cabana scored a goal in each of the Mallards three games this weekend. On Friday in Kansas City, Cabana recorded his fourth goal of the season. The Calgary native followed that performance by scoring the Mallards regulation goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to Flint. In SundayÂ’s loss to Rockford, Cabana recorded a second period goal.

For the Defense

Mallards Captain Terry Hollinger recorded two goals and an assist on Friday in Kansas City. Hollinger is the only Mallards defenseman to record a multiple goal game this season. He added an assist on Sunday vs. Rockford for his 16th point of the season (three goals and 13 assists). The Regina, Saskatchewan native is tied for third in scoring amongst UHL defensemen.

Last WeekÂ’s Games

Friday, December 3- Quad City 4 at Kansas City 6

Terry Hollinger started the scoring with an end-to-end rush in the first period. Mathieu Descoteaux evened the game with a power-play goal three minutes later. Kansas CityÂ’s Derek Kern scored his first goal of the season before the first ended to give the Outlaws a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. In the second, Hollinger tied the game with a power-play goal at the 7:49 mark. Descoteaux answered HollingerÂ’s goal for a second time when he scored with the man advantage at 15:51 of the second. Mallard Marty Standish tied the game on the power play with just 38 seconds left in the second. In the third, Steve Yetman scored 31 seconds into the period to stake the Outlaws to a 4-3 lead. Paul Cabana evened the score with 6:10 gone in the period. Yetman would strike again with 3:40 left in the game. YetmanÂ’s second of the game and ninth of the season held up as the game-winner, and Jimmy Callahan added an empty-net goal to secure the Outlaws victory.

Saturday, December 4-Flint 2 at Quad City 1-Shootout

The Mallards dropped a 2-1 shootout at The MARK to the Flint Generals on Saturday. Paul Cabana scored the only regulation goal for the Mallards at the 10:36 mark of the first period. After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless play, Brent Currie tied the game for the Generals with his first goal of the year at 10:08 of the third period. In the shootout, Quad CityÂ’s Jeff Reynaert and FlintÂ’s Dan McIntyre were spectacular as they turned aside nine of ten shooters. Mallards nemesis Jim Duhart recorded the lone shootout goal as the Mallards fell to 2-2 this season in the shootout.

Sunday, December 5-Rockford 6 at Quad City 1

The Mallards allowed three unanswered goals in the first (Olivier Proulx, Kevin Klein and Vince Malts). Paul Cabana scored the Mallards only goal on the power play at the 1:33 mark of the second period. The Hogs answered with a shorthanded marker by Klein. In the third, Terry Harrison and Eric Labelle scored for Rockford.

Player of the Week

Paul Cabana is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Cabana had a goal in each of the Mallards three games this weekend.

Goaltender of the Week

Jeff Reynaert is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He stopped 15 of 16 Flint shots and four of five shootout snipers in a 2-1 shootout loss on Saturday. He made 30 saves in SundayÂ’s loss to Rockford.
