Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Brampton, ON- Devante Smith-Pelly scored three goals and the Majors outplayed Brampton from start to finish; in a well deserved 3-1 victory this afternoon in Brampton. The win improves the Majors to 28-8-4-1 on the season.

The Majors began the game on a hot start with several opportunities and dominated play for the opening twenty minutes. The Battalion struggled to get the puck out of their end. Brampton fought back and scored with less than a minute remaining in the period on the power play from Philip Lane to give the Troops a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The Majors regained their strong play into the second period and tied the game at 12:31 when Devante Smith-Pelly scored off precise passing from Casey Cizikas and Riley Brace on the power play, tying the game at 1-1.

Smith-Pelly put the Majors ahead three minutes into the third when he re-directed William Wallen's point shot to make it 2-1 for Mississauga. The Majors sniper completed the hat-trick just over six minutes later on an odd man rush to make it 3-1 for St. Mike's and that's how it would end.

JP Anderson may not have been very busy but he did make several key saves, totaling 17 on the day and picks up the win for the Majors. Patrick Killeen played strong in the Brampton goal making 35 saves in a losing effort. Majors forward Casey Cizikas picked up two assists and continued his strong play. The meeting with Brampton marked the seventh game between the teams this season, and the third game in three weeks. Majors defenceman Tim Billingsley played in his 200th career OHL game this afternoon.

The Majors will now be off until a three-in-three schedule next weekend beginning next Friday in Kitchener. Mississauga will then play in Oshawa next Saturday night and then return home to host the Owen Sound Attack next Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The OHL trade deadline is tomorrow at 12 Noon.
