Magic Number Now 2 as Saints Rout Riders

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - *The Dubuque Fighting Saints rode three goals in the second and third periods, and stifling defense throughout to a crucial victory on the road. The Saints took all four meetings at The Stable, as they routed the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 6-2 on Friday night.

The Saints got goals from five different goal scorers in the win, and outshot the Riders 36-21, including an outrageous 16-6 mark in the second period. The power play also clicked in Friday's game, as it went 2-for-4 on the night.

Following a scoreless first period full of penalties, Dubuque's scorers got hot in the second period. *Jacob Hamacher* got the scoring started for Dubuque following a slap pass from the point by *Taylor Brierley*, the former RoughRider, to put the Saints up 1-0. *Colin Theisen*'s short-side power play tally continued the rally, and eight minutes later, a situation developed that turned the tide.

On a power play, CR forward Dalton Messina was sprung on a breakaway, in which *Jaxon Castor* turned him aside, though with some confusion. At the other end, *Quinn Preston* carried the puck into the offensive zone and danced his way through the defense en route to a spectacular goal that would extend the lead to three.

So either up by only one, or up by three, by virtue of video review. The review wiped out Messina's potential goal, and confirmed Preston's tally at 14:39 of the second period.

Theisen added his second goal of the game, *Zach Solow *notched a breakaway tally, and *Michael Boyle* put one into the empty net to respond to goals from Messina, just 17 seconds into the third, and Trevor Zins, who scored his first USHL goal in his 68th game, late on the power play.

Castor was routinely good throughout, with 19 saves on the night.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, April 1 in Omaha at 7:05 p.m. Catch all of the action on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM, or on the USHL's streaming video provider, HockeyTV.
