Maddox Wins Player of the Week
April 26, 2016 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Whitecaps infielder Will Maddox has been named Midwest League Player of the Week after going 11-for-18 (.611) during the teams' seven-game homestand last week.
During the stretch, Maddox ripped a pair of doubles and collected two RBI. Thus far, the native of Gainesville, GA has hit .405 with five doubles, four RBI and two stolen bases through 12 games of 2016. The 2014 18th round pick of the Tigers played in just 13 games last year, hitting .395 for the Whitecaps before a broken foot prematurely ended his season.
Maddox is the first Whitecaps player to win the award this year, and the first position player to be bestowed the honor since infielder Jeff Holm accomplished the feat in June 2013. Last season, Whitecaps pitchers A.J. Ladwig and Jeff Thompson took home the award during consecutive weeks in May of 2015. The accomplishments marked the first time that Whitecaps players had won Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks since July 2009, when outfielder Billy Nowlin and Casey Crosby did the same.
