MacLeod Scores Twice in Overtime Loss to Solar Bears

Orlando, FL - Forward Alex MacLeod buried his first two ECHL goals, but the South Carolina Stingrays (26-23-2-3) fell to the Orlando Solar Bears (22-24-2-3) 4-3 in overtime at the Amway Center Friday night.

Forward Andrew Cherniwchan put the Stingrays up 1-0 with his seventh goal of the season at 6:15 of the first period forcing a turnover off the stick of Solar Bears defenseman Michael Wilson and lifting a backhanded shot over the right shoulder of goaltender Patrick Killeen (W, 23 saves on 26 shots). Winger Alex MacLeod made it 2-0 with four seconds to play in the period tipping a pass from forward Hunter Bishop over the left pad of Killeen. Defenseman Tommy Cross added the second assist.

MacLeod buried his second goal of the game 3:31 into the third period with help from defenseman Cam Brodie. The Solar Bears jumped on the board with a power-play goal from forward C.J. Severyn at 12:08. Moments later, Severyn registered his second tally, on the man advantage, to pull the contest within one at 15:39. With Killeen pulled for the extra skater late in the frame, forward Michael Neal slipped a shot past Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (OTL, 33 saves on 37 shots) from the bottom of the right-wing circle to force overtime at 19:37. In the extra session, Solar Bears team captain Ryan Cruthers completed the comeback with his 17 goal of the season at 3:32.

The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-5 on the power play while the Solar Bears when 2-for-6.

The Stingrays continue a three-game road trip against the Solar Bears Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Amway Center and return to the Coliseum on Friday, February 22 for the Dog Days of Winter against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. Bring your dog to the game!
