Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL (April 3, 2007) - The Peoria Rivermen are proud to announce that defenseman and captain Aaron MacKenzie has been named the team's winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Peoria community during the 2006-07 season.

MacKenzie, 26, has played in 60 games this season with six points (1g, 5a). Additionally, although untracked as official statistics, the 6-foot, 187-pound native of Terrace Bay, Ontario, is one of the team's leaders in blocked shots (some five or more a game) and ice time. He has been extremely active in Rivermen community programs throughout the season, including school reading program visits and functions at the Children's Hospital of Illinois.

In recognition of his efforts, MacKenzie will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Rivermen home game.

MacKenzie is now one of 27 finalists for the AHL's 2006-07 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced later this month.
