Trenton Thunder News Release
(Bowie, MD) - Manny Machado hit for the cycle, including connecting on a game-winning two run homerun in the eighth as Bowie snapped the Thunder's eight-game winning streak on Saturday. Machado's stunning homer gave Bowie (58-54) an 8-7 lead that RHP Kyler Newby closed out for the win.
Trenton (68-45) had two late inning leads slip away including a 7-6 edge after Adonis Garcia smacked a homerun in the seventh inning. Garcia has now collected five hits in his first two games since being promoted to Trenton. The Thunder erased an early 5-0 deficit as Luke Murton and Zoilo Almonte put the Thunder on the board in the fourth inning with back-to-back homeruns to left field. Trenton then scored four in the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead, capped off by a Jeff Farnham two run base hit.
The bullpen combined of Josh Romanski and Mark Montgomery pitched the final four innings to replace starter Craig Heyer. Montgomery (1-1) struck out four but walked one and then allowed the homerun to Machado to take the loss. Machado tripled in the second inning, doubled in the third and singled in the sixth to set the stage for the cycle.
