M-Braves Use Long Ball to Beat BayBears

Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves (7-5) needed stellar pitching and two deep shots to take game two in a five game series against the Mobile BayBears (4-8) by a score of 4-2 at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
It was another dominant outing from the M-Braves pitching staff, as No. 3 prospect Kolby Allard scattered four hits and one earned run across six innings of work in his third start of the season. Allard did not pick up the victory, but continues to impress in his young AA season, giving up only three runs in 16 innings.
Michael Mader (2-0) followed Allard in relief, giving up the tying run in the seventh before pitching out of trouble and picking up the win out of the bullpen. Mader struck out one and walked one in 2.2 innings, earning his second win of the season. Akeel Morris picked up his fourth save in as many attempts by striking out Andrew Daniel with a runner on second and two out in the ninth.
Joey Meneses got the scoring started for the M-Braves in the second inning, hitting his second home run of the season into the bullpen in left field. Keith Curcio followed with his third double of the year and scored a batter later on an RBI single by Connor Lien. The BayBears would answer in the top half of the third, as newly acquired second baseman Alberto Triunfel matched Meneses' home run with one of his own in almost the exact same location in left field. It was the only run Allard would allow all night.
In the seventh, the BayBears found life on the offensive side once again when shortstop Hutton Moyer hit a one-out double down the line in left and stole third to set up Triunfel with one on and two out. The diminutive right-hander slapped a single back up the middle for his second RBI of the night, tying the game at two. Mader would retire Triunfel on a pickoff attempt moments later, but the damage had been done.
With another extra-inning scenario looming for the M-Braves, it was an unlikely hero that stepped to the plate in the eighth inning. After Connor Lien reached on a leadoff HBP, Dylan Moore walked to the plate with the attitude of someone who wasn't hitting under .100 on the year. With a 1-0 count, Dylan smashed a ball onto the berm in left-center field to give the M-Braves a two run lead, one they would not relinquish. It was Moore's third hit of the year, first extra-base hit and first two RBIs.
For Mobile, starter Osmer Morales pitched a gem as well, giving up two runs on four hits in five innings of work. He also struck out six batters with only one walk in the no-decision.
With the series tied at one win apiece, the M-Braves and BayBears will square off Wednesday morning at 10:35 CT for a matinee game on 103.9 fm or wyab.com.
