M-Braves Take Series Finale 6-0

Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves shutout the Tennessee Smokies for the second consecutive game, taking the series finale at Trustmark Park 6-0. After a five-game road trip to Montgomery, the M-Braves return for a 10-game homestand at Trustmark Park. That series starts Sunday, May 12 at 5:00 PM.
Mississippi (19-11) scored six runs on 12 hits while the Smokies (15-14) managed no runs on five hits. Tennessee also committed one error. The M-Braves haven't allowed a run in 23 innings, and they haven't given up an earned run in 29.1 innings.
The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Shawn McGill singled and stole second. He then came in to score on a Barrett Kleinknecht singled to center field.
Edward Salcedo reached on an error by the third baseman to start the fourth. He took second on the throw. Kyle Russell followed with a ground-rule double to right-center field, driving in Salcedo and extending the Braves lead to 2-0. Jaime Pedroza singled and stole second to move into scoring position. Aaron Northcraft then delivered a two-run single to right field, making it 4-0.
Mississippi added another run in the fifth to make it a 5-0 game. Christian Marrero doubled, stole third and scored on a singled from Salcedo.
In the eighth, Russell and Shawn McGill led off with back-to-back singles. Kleinknecht then delivered a RBI-single to center field, extending the M-Braves lead to 6-0.
Aaron Northcraft (1-2) went five innings for the M-Braves, limiting the Smokies to just two hits and a walk. He struck out six batters. Ian Thomas and Mark Lamm worked the final four frames to finish the shut out.
Kyle Hendricks (1-2) also tossed five innings for Tennessee. He gave up five runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out five batters.
The M-Braves have an off day Monday before traveling to Montgomery for a five-game series against the Biscuits. In game one of the series, Braves right-hander Michael Lee (3-1, 3.86) counters Biscuits righty Jacob Thompson (2-2, 4.88). First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM Tuesday at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.
