Lynx Sign Blueliner Femenella

August 13, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL) - Augusta Lynx News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga.−The Augusta Lynx have signed defenseman Art Femenella, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations John Marks announced today.

"Art is a legitimate heavyweight who doesn't back down from anything," Marks said. "You obviously can't coach size, but he also has all the tools to be a very good hockey player. Art's physical presence should help him be the kind of player fans grow to love and appreciate."

The 6-foot-7, 255-pound Femenella most recently spent four seasons with the University of Vermont Catamounts in the Hockey East conference, where he tallied four points (two goals, two assists) and 172 penalty minutes in 69 games from 2003-04 through 2006-07. The 26-year-old native of Annandale, N.J. attended the Lynx training camp last year, but missed the 2007-08 season due to injury.

Prior to attending college, Femenella notched 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) and 664 penalty minutes in 157 career regular-season games with the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League from 2000-01 through 2002-03. Femenella also had one assist and 48 penalty minutes in 19 career USHL playoff games, winning the Clark Cup with Lynx teammate Matt Hartman in 2002.

Femenella was originally drafted 188th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The Augusta Lynx will begin their 11th season of play this October. Season tickets, group tickets, small business packages and fundraisers are all available by calling 706.724.4423 or by logging on to augustalynx.com.
