Lynchburg Outlasts Keys

August 24, 2013 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Hits were a-plenty at City Stadium Saturday evening but runs were sparse. The Keys could only notch one run on ten hits and they fell to Lynchburg 3-1 in the series opener. The Keys now trail the Hillcats by seven games with ten remaining in the regular season.

The Keys ten hits featured nine singles and Lynchburg did not issue a walk or commit an error. The night was one of baserunners and clutch pitching.

Down 1-0 in the third inning Frederick produced their lone run-scoring rally. DH Zane Chavez doubled down the left field line. Next up was 2B Travis Adair who singled Chavez home. With that Adair extended his hitting streak to 15 games. It is the longest current hit streak in the Carolina League.

1B Mike Mosby followed with a single and the Keys had two on with nobody out but they failed to score again.

Lynchburg grabbed the lead in the sixth inning against Keys starter Brady Wager. Consecutive singles opened the inning from Hillcats RF David Rohm and LF Josh Elander putting runners at the corners. Wager got a strikeout and then a groundball but the Keys could not turn two and Lynchburg had a 2-1 lead. They would add an insurance run in the seventh inning.

The Keys now turn to RHP Zach Davies on the hill Sunday, August 25th. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 5:35 p.m. on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.

Saturday, August 31st the Keys will return for their final home series of the regular season taking on the Potomac Nationals Labor Day weekend.

The Keys will honor Washington Redskins great Joe Jacoby as the first 600 fans through the gate will receive a free Hogs Nose and fireworks will follow the game. Get your tickets at 301-815-9939 or online at frederickkeys.com.
