THE HILLCATS: Last night the Hillcats pounded the Blue Rocks with a 9-1 win in the middle game of their three-game series at Wilmington...The Hillcats have won eight of their last ten games and over a longer stretch they are 12-4 in their last 16 games...Today is the final game of a three-game series at Wilmington and the last contest of a brief three-game road trip...The Green & Gold are in the middle of a stretch of 14 out of 17 games at City Stadium...The Cats entered today four games back of Potomac for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division with 15 games left to play in the second half of the season...

VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats are 6-10 against the Blue Rocks this season and 4-5 in Wilmington...The Cats went 5-15 against the Rocks during the regular season last year, 3-7 at City Stadium and 2-8 at Frawley Stadium...Wilmington was the only team in the Carolina League with a winning record versus the Hillcats last season...In the post-season though, the Cats topped the Rocks three-games-to-two in a best of five series to win the Northern Division Championship and advance to the Mills Cup...Wilmington has the all-time advantage over Lynchburg 189-127...

PAINTING THE ROCKS GREEN & GOLD: Lynchburg has outscored Wilmington 16-1 and out hit them 24-14 through two games in this three-game series...The 9-1 win last night matched the biggest margin of victory the Hillcats have had this season...The Cats had lost five in a row to the Rocks, including a three-game sweep at City Stadium, before their two wins in this set...In the eighth and ninth innings combined in the series Lynchburg has outscored Wilmington 10-0...Today the Hillcats look for their first road series sweep of the season...

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: With their two wins to start this series Lynchburg has now won seven of their last nine games on the road...Over a longer stretch they are 13-8 in their last 21 road games, including a 5-2 record on their most recent road trip...In the Hillcats last six road series they are now 5-1-1 after they secured their third straight road series victory last night...

U-TURN: RHP Curtis Partch allowed just one run in a career-high eight innings of work and matched his season-high with seven strikeouts last night...The eight innings matched the longest start this season by a Hillcat...It was his fourth straight quality start and his fifth in his last six outings...In his last six starts the right-hander is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA (10 earned run in 37 innings) to lower his ERA from 5.80 to 4.78...In his previous four starts he was 1-3 with a 13.50 ERA (25 earned runs in 16 and 1/3 innings)...In those four outings he has given up 42 hits in 16 and 1/3 innings...

SUGAR SHANE: INF Shane Carlson went 0-for-3 with a run scored last night to bring his season-long 16 hit-streak to a close...Over that time, Carlson was 24-for-60 (.400) with seven doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored...During the streak he had seven multi-hit games and he had both driven in a run and scored a run in the last five contests he had played in prior to last night...He had raised his batting average from .234 to .315...The streak is now the longest streak by a Hillcat this season...OF Kyle Day had a 15-game streak followed by OF Josh Fellhauer, INF Alex Buchholz, OF Denis Phipps and INF Chris Richburg tied for second, each with 11-game hit streaks...Carlson fell 10 games short of tying the longest streak in the Carolina League this season and he was six games short of matching the longest streak in team history...He still tied for the sixth longest streak by a Hillcat...

DOUBLE TIMING IT: UTIL Cody Puckett went 3-for-4 last night with a double, a home run, two RBI and four runs scored...It was the third straight game he doubled and homered in...The double was his 39th of the season, which ties him for second on the single season all-time Hillcats list (Freddy Garcia, 1996 and Pat Magness, 2005)...He is now two short of tying the single season record (Ray Navarrette, 2002)...He is also six short of tying the all-time Lynchburg record (45, Scott Cooper, 1988)...Puckett is second in the CL in doubles, second in extra-base hits (59), fourth in home runs (16), fourth in total bases (212) and fourth in strikeouts (118)...

RICH AND FAMOUS: INF Chris Richburg went 1-for-5 last night with a double and a run scored...He has now hit in 20 out of his last 22 games, including an 11-game hitting streak over that time...In those 22 games he is batting .386 (34-for-88) with nine doubles, four home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored...

TODAY'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Buddy Baumann was selected by the Royals in the seventh round of the 2009 draft out of Missouri State University...His final season with the Bears he went 11-1 with a 3.23 ERA in 13 starts (two complete games)...He made his professional debut last season and had a 1.80 ERA in three games in relief with Rookie Burlington...This season he began with Advanced-A Wilmington and has posted a 3-2 mark with four saves and a 2.35 ERA in 28 games (11 starts)...His first 17 appearances of the season were in relief...He has pitched against Lynchburg three times (once as a starter) and has gone 0-0 with a 6.14 ERA (five earned runs in seven and 1/3 innings)...Against the rest of the Carolina League he has a 1.99 ERA...
