THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg salvaged a win in their three-game series with Salem and snapped their season-long six-game losing streak with a 6-2 win last night at Memorial Ballpark...After a 1-6 road swing, the Hillcats open up a four-game series with Potomac and a seven-game homestand tonight...

VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 3-3 against the Nationals thus far this season with both teams taking a series on their home field...Lynchburg is 157-148 against Potomac all-time and are 85-72 in the Hill City...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9 and were 6-4 at Calvin Falwell Field...

ROAD TO RECOVERY: RHP Edinson Volquez is scheduled to start for the Hillcats on Saturday night in a rehabilitation start...In 2008 he was the Reds' lone representative in the National League All-Star game...He was 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA with 206 strikeouts in 196 innings...The righty last threw June 1, 2009 for the Reds against St. Louis...He missed the rest of last season and had elbow reconstructive surgery August 3...Volquez was 4-2, with a 4.35 ERA in nine starts with Cincinnati last year...On April 20, Volquez was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program...His suspension ends Sunday, and he will be pitching under a rehab assignment while under suspension...

HOLD ON TO THE NIGHTS: Last night the Hillcats held on to an early advantage to secure the win and stop their six-game losing skid...The three previous games Lynchburg had relinquished three separate leads in each game...The were up 3-1, 5-3 and 6-5 in their 10-6 loss in extra-innings on Tuesday night...Lynchburg had a two-run lead entering the ninth inning and a one-run advantage heading into the bottom of the 11th...On Monday night they led 1-0, 2-1 and 4-2 entering the ninth inning a night ago before eventually falling 5-4 thanks to three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning by the Red Sox...On Sunday in Frederick they were up 2-0 after a half an inning, up 3-2 after an inning and a half and led 5-3 heading into the sixth inning losing the lead again...Lynchburg has 19th blown leads this season in 60 games...

ALL-STAR: RHP Brad Boxberger was named to the 2010 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star team today as the Hillcats lone representative...The supplemental first round selection from last year's draft is 4-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts this season...Last night he tossed a career-high seven innings last night and allowed just one run in earning his fourth victory of the season...It was his first in seven starts (May 3rd) and it snapped a personal four-game losing streak...The right-hander had only gotten through five innings one time in his previous six starts prior to last night...

HE DIDN'T START THE FIRE: LHP Donnie Joseph entered the game last night with the bases loaded and one out, protecting a four-run lead...He struck out the first two batters he faced to escape the jam and threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save with Lynchburg and his seventh save of the season...On Sunday in Frederick, Joseph allowed two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to blow the save opportunity and take the loss...Joseph is now posting a 2.16 ERA (two earned runs in eight and 1/3 innings) at the Advanced-A level with 15 strike outs...

JUG OF PUNCH: INF Alex Buccholz hit his fifth home run of the season last night in the top of the first inning to give the Hillcats an early 2-0 lead they would not let go of...He has now homered four times in his last nine games after he hit one long ball in his first 47 contests...His slugging percentage over that time has gone from .377 to .428...

THE HEAT IS ON: INF Miguel Rojas went 2-for-4 last night with a double and a run...In the three-game series in Frederick he went a combined 7-for-10 and he has now hit in eight of his last nine games...Over that time he has raised his average from .213 to .243...Last season he hit .234 before the All-Star break and .311 after with Low-A Dayton...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Evan Bronson was selected by the Nationals in the 29th round of last year's draft out of Trinity College (TX)...He made his professional debut last season with Vermont and went 3-0 with a 0.55 ERA in 20 games out of the bullpen for the Lake Monsters...This season with the P-Nats he has gone 1-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 14 games (nine starts)...He has made one start against Lynchburg and he allowed seven runs (six earned) in three and 2/3 innings and took the loss at Potomac on April 23rd...
