Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles, widely considered one of the top pitching prospects in Minor League Baseball, was promoted from Double-A Corpus Christi to the Round Rock Express following Thursday night's game, the Houston Astros announced Friday. Lyles will make his Triple-A debut Tuesday, Aug. 10, as the Express host the Sacramento River Cats at The Dell Diamond. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. CDT.

A supplemental first-round pick in 2008, Lyles was the 38th overall selection and the fifth-highest high school pitcher selected in that year's draft. He is one of three 2008 first-rounders now in the Astros organization, joining catcher Jason Castro and first baseman Brett Wallace. Lyles was rated as the Astros third-best prospect by Baseball America prior to this season.

Lyles split 2008 between rookie-league Greeneville and short-season Tri-City. He was 3-3 with a 3.99 ERA and 64 strikeouts against 10 walks over 49.2 innings in 13 starts for Greeneville. Lyles made two starts for Tri-City but did not record a decision.

Last season, Lyle was 7-11 with a 3.24 ERA in 26 starts for Class-A Lexington. He logged 144.2 innings with 167 strikeouts against 38 walks with a .247 opponents' batting average.

Lyles spent all of 2010 with Corpus Christi prior to Thursday night's promotion. He appeared in 21 games with 20 starts, going 7-9 with a 3.12 ERA and a .267 opponents' batting average. Lyles had one complete game and notched 115 strikeouts in 127.0 innings with 35 walks.

The Express return to action Friday, hosting the Fresno Grizzlies for the third game of a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at The Dell Diamond.
