Clinton LumberKings News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - A pair of Quad Cities River Bandits home runs proved to be the difference in a 3-1 Clinton LumberKings loss on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park. The two home runs for the River Bandits (9-6) give them 16 over their last five games.
The LumberKings failed to get much going against River Bandits pitching. First, starter Brett Adcock held Clinton to just one run over his 4 and 2/3 inning outing, striking out six, and walking one. Recent call up Edgardo Sandoval earned the win for Quad Cities with 4 and 1/3 innings of shutout work. Sandoval (1-0) did not issue a walk or allow a hit while striking out four in his season debut.
In the bottom of the second inning, the River Bandits got on the board on a Spencer Johnson solo home run to straight away center field.
The LumberKings tied the game in the top of the third inning with their only run of the night. Anthony Jimenez tripled high off the wall in right center and speed around the bases for his first triple of the year. Bryson Brigman, the team leader in RBI, brought home Jimenez four pitches later with a sacrifice fly to center, tying the game one.
LumberKings starter Nick Wells, settled down following the Johnson solo home run in the second, holding the River Bandits to a single through four innings.
The tie was broken in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Taylor Jones popped up for a sure out in foul territory but the ball was dropped by catcher Yojhan Quevedo. On the next pitch, Wells (0-1) hit Jones to put a runner on first. Marcos Almonte followed with a two-run homer down the line in right.
Clinton's offense mustered just two hits and could not overcome the second River Bandits home run of the night. Quad Cities has now won five straight, their longest winning streak of the season.
The LumberKings have dropped six of their first seven road games to begin the season.
The LumberKings will play game three of their four game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits Saturday afternoon. RHP Ljay Newsome (2-1, 5.40) will get the start for Clinton and face Quad Cities RHP Enoli Paredes (0-0, 3.00). First pitch is slated for 1:15 PM with the pregame show on 100.3 FM WCCI beginning at 1:00 PM, Erik Oas will be on the call.
