Luke French Elected to Triple-A All-Star Team
July 1, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Pacific Coast League announced today that pitcher Luke French has been elected to represent the Tacoma Rainiers at the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game.
This year's event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 14 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA, home of the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. The 2010 PCL squad will face off against All-Star selections from the International League beginning at 7:00 p.m. (EDT). The game can be heard locally on South Sound Sports 850 AM and will be televised nationally on MLB Network.
French, 24, currently leads all pitchers with a PCL-low 2.39 ERA and is ranked second in the league with a nine wins this season. The left-hander has started a team-high 14 games for Tacoma, with 20 walks and 51 strikeouts over 94.1 innings.
Originally selected by Detroit in the eighth round of the 2004 draft, French is in his first season as a Rainier and his second as member of the Seattle organization. He was traded to the Mariners from the Tigers along with left-handed pitcher Mauricio Robles in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jarrod Washburn on July 31, 2009.
French's 2010 All-Star selection is the second by a member of the Rainiers this season. The PCL announced in June that Tacoma manager Daren Brown would serve in that same role on this year's PCL All-Star Field Staff.
Both French and Brown will be recognized for their on-field achievements before the Rainiers game on Friday, July 2, when the team hosts Portland in the second game of their three-game set with the Beavers.
