Potomac Nationals News Release

Woodbridge, VA---The Carolina League announced today that Potomac Nationals' RHP Luis Reyes (5-5, 4.05) has been named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 5th to June 11th. It is the second weekly award for Potomac in 2017 and the first time in Reyes' career that he has received a league-wide Pitcher of the Week award.

Reyes made one start this past week and had the best start of his career. In a victory over the Down East Wood Ducks on 6/8, Reyes allowed just two hits over eight-shutout innings. The 22-year-old struck out 10 Wood Ducks, which matched a career high. The right-handed starter faced just one batter over the minimum and tallied his second consecutive start without a walk.

Reyes has been Potomac's top pitcher for much of the season, and is 4-0 in his last six starts. In his last five starts, Reyes has allowed just five earned runs and holds an ERA of 1.44 (5/31.1). Over those five starts, the right-handed starter has struck out 42 and walked just four. As of 6/12, Reyes leads the P-Nats in innings pitched (68.2), strikeouts (72), is second in wins (5), and has the best WHIP (1.25) of any Potomac pitcher with more than 10 starts.

2017 is Reyes' fifth season in the Nationals' system. The righty signed with the Washington Nationals on 8/22/12 as an International Free Agent. This is Reyes' second stint with Potomac, as he went 4-8 with a 5.60 ERA in 14 starts for the P-Nats in 2016. Reyes had as many walks as strikeouts (46) in 2016, but holds more than a 3.5:1 K:BB ratio in 2017. Reyes is slated to start game two of Potomac's three-game series vs. the Buies Creek Astros (Houston Astros), Tuesday night at Pfitzner Stadium.
